Report on Damage Estimates in Tokyo Due to an Earthquake Directly Hitting Tokyo (Released April 18, 2012)

In light of the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has decided to fully review the “Damage Estimates in Tokyo Due to an Earthquake Directly Hitting Tokyo” announced in May 2006, and the Tokyo Disaster Management Council’s Earthquake Subcommittee has proceeded with considerations.
At this time, we are pleased to inform you of the results, Report “Damage Estimates in Tokyo Due to an Earthquake Directly Hitting Tokyo”, which was reported to and approved by the Disaster Management Council as shown separately attached.
In the future, based on this report, we will revise the regional disaster prevention plan, and advance the disaster prevention capabilities of Tokyo by strongly promoting the necessary measures.

(Note) The estimate results including the seismic intensity distribution of each earthquake are the result of a simulation with set conditions, and it is necessary to remember that the results may vary greatly by changing the conditions.

(Note) The report and overview version on the damage estimates in Tokyo due to an earthquake directly hitting Tokyo are available for purchase in the Tokyo Citizen Information Room on the 3rd floor of Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building No. 1.
